Generators for Sale, Rent and Service in Khammam and the Kothagudem Region

In short. Reddy Generators rents, sells and services diesel generators for customers in Khammam and across the Bhadradri Kothagudem region, from chilli cold stores and granite polishing units to bank and insurance branches. We have rented generators to branches in Khammam before, and we plan every job here from our Hyderabad base, about 193 km away; timing is confirmed when you call. This page is about the one thing that sets Khammam apart: generators that must run for long hours in some of the highest temperatures recorded in the state.

Who this page is for: Cold-storage and chilli-trade owners, granite polishing unit owners, branch and office managers, hospitals, and contractors working around Khammam, Kothagudem, Paloncha and Bhadrachalam who need a generator that keeps running through the hottest summers in Telangana.

Key facts

  • Distance: about 193 km east of Hyderabad by road; NH 365BB links Khammam with Suryapet on the Hyderabad–Vijayawada highway (NH 65).
  • Heat: summer temperatures regularly reach the mid-40s °C and Khammam has recorded around 48 °C; Bhadrachalam has recorded about 48.6 °C.
  • Power distribution: TGNPDCL serves both Khammam and Bhadradri Kothagudem districts.
  • Chilli: Khammam district is the largest producer of Teja chilli, and Khammam’s agricultural market has the second-largest chilli yard in Telangana — which means cold storage.
  • Granite: polishing and cutting units cluster around Khanapuram Haveli, Mudigonda, Arempula, Pallegudem, Gopalapuram and Nelakondapalli.
  • Coal and power: the Singareni Collieries headquarters at Kothagudem, the Kothagudem Thermal Power Station at Paloncha, the Bhadradri thermal project and Heavy Water Plant at Manuguru, and a paper mill near Bhadrachalam.
  • Confirmed local work: a national life insurer’s Khammam branch was added to our 62.5 kVA acoustic generator rentals.

Our work in Khammam

From 2008 a national life insurer rented 62.5 kVA acoustic generators from us for its branches in Hyderabad and Secunderabad, and in later years its Vijayawada and Khammam branches were added. The case is described on our project page for 62.5 kVA generators for branch offices in Hyderabad, Vijayawada and Khammam. Branch rentals of this kind are explained in our guide to generators for bank and insurance branches. Across Telangana we also maintain DG sets, AVRs and fire-fighting engines at nearly 50 TS TRANSCO substations under a planned-maintenance programme — see our substation work.

Khammam’s heat, translated into generator decisions

Local condition Effect on the generator What we recommend
Afternoon air of 45–48 °C, hotter still inside a sun-baked enclosure Engine output falls, coolant temperature climbs, high-temperature shutdowns in the afternoon Rate the set at the real site ambient; ask for the radiator design ambient with the enclosure closed; shade the enclosure without blocking air paths. Our summer precautions page has the checklist.
Long outages and load restrictions in peak summer demand Many continuous running hours, fuel used faster than expected Plan runtime and refuelling in litres, not hours; see the worked example below.
Hot-air recirculation where sets stand against walls or in narrow yards The radiator breathes its own exhaust heat; overheating even at moderate load Keep clear space at the air inlet and outlet; duct the hot air away; never park vehicles in front of the radiator.
Granite slurry and stone dust around polishing units; coal dust in the Kothagudem belt Choked radiator cores and air filters; abrasive dust in the alternator Position the set upwind of cutting and handling areas; clean radiators on a schedule; shorter filter intervals.
Heavy monsoon rainfall, especially in the Godavari side of the district Flooded plinths, water in fuel, damp windings after storage Raise the plinth; drain water from fuel tanks; dry and insulation-test windings of sets that stood idle through the rains.
Rural and semi-urban feeders Phase failure and voltage fluctuation An AMF panel with phase-failure sensing, and a single-phasing protected motor circuit.

Sites in Khammam and Kothagudem — typical sets and duty

Site type Where Typical set size Duty and what matters
Chilli cold storage Around Khammam town and the market area 100–380 kVA Refrigeration compressors running for long hours in summer; staggered starting; fuel autonomy. See cold storage.
Granite polishing and cutting unit Khanapuram Haveli, Mudigonda, Pallegudem, Nelakondapalli and nearby villages 125–500 kVA Large motors on gang saws, cutters and polishing lines; motor starting and dust control drive the choice.
Bank, insurance and government branch office Khammam town, Kothagudem, Bhadrachalam 15–62.5 kVA acoustic Computers, lighting, AC; quiet sets in commercial streets; rental is common.
Hospitals and diagnostic centres Khammam town and Kothagudem 62.5–500 kVA Critical loads, imaging equipment, oxygen and lifts; automatic transfer.
Contractors at mines, power plants and industrial sites Kothagudem, Paloncha, Manuguru, Bhadrachalam belt 62.5–500 kVA rental Site offices, workshops, welding and lighting for shutdown and construction work; long running hours. See shutdowns and turnarounds.
Rice mills, oil and agro-processing units Across the district 82.5–320 kVA Seasonal, motor-heavy; voltage dip on starting.

Typical ranges only; your own load list decides the size.

Illustrative case: will the cold store hold through a ten-hour outage in May?

Illustrative case. A chilli cold store near Khammam has three 30 kW refrigeration compressors (two run, one stands by), condenser fans and pumps of 8 kW, evaporator fans of 10 kW, and lights and office of 4 kW. The owner asks two questions: what size of set, and how long will it run on the tank?

Running load = 2 × 30 + 8 + 10 + 4 = 82 kW
On a 160 kVA set (128 kW at 0.8 power factor): 82 ÷ 128 ≈ 64 % of rating
Fuel at about 0.27 litre per kWh (illustrative — use your set’s data sheet): 82 × 0.27 ≈ 22.1 litres per hour
Ten-hour outage: 22.1 × 10 ≈ 221 litres
Base tank of 400 litres, about 90 % usable = 360 litres → 360 ÷ 22.1 ≈ 16 hours of running

Three points come out of this for Khammam conditions:

  • Why not a 125 kVA set? At 100 kW, the same 82 kW would be 82 % of rating. On a 47 °C afternoon, with any derating on the data sheet and condensers working harder, that margin disappears. The 160 kVA set leaves room for heat and for the standby compressor to cut in during a fault.
  • Staggered starting. The controller or the refrigeration panel should bring the compressors on one at a time, with a delay, after the set takes load. Two compressors starting together double the voltage dip.
  • Refuelling plan in litres. At 22 litres per hour, a tank topped up to only half is about eight hours of running. In peak summer, keep the tank above an agreed reorder level, record every delivery, and read our page on fuel and refuelling control. Our fuel tank and runtime calculator repeats this sum for your own figures.

How sales, rental, service and spares work for Khammam

Rental

Rental sets come from our own fleet in Hyderabad and travel by road. For a branch office or a cold store, tell us the load, the duration and where the set will stand; we confirm availability and dispatch when you book. For long rentals we agree a service schedule from the start so that oil and filter changes are planned visits, not emergencies. Choosing a supplier is easier with our checklist on what to ask a rental supplier.

Sales

New CPCB IV+ compliant sets come through our supply tie-ups with all major makes. Used and refurbished sets from 15 to 2,000 kVA are load-bank tested before sale; refurbished sets carry a six-month warranty (exclusions apply), and used sets sold as-is come with an inspection report. We buy used sets and accept part exchange — useful for granite units that have closed a line and have a surplus set.

Service, AMC and spares

Breakdown calls are taken seven days a week, 8:30 am to 8:30 pm; because Khammam is about 193 km from our base, the engineer’s arrival time is confirmed on the call. AMC customers get planned visits, with the heaviest checks scheduled just before summer: radiator cleaning, coolant condition, belts, air filters, battery and a loaded run. Overheating, smoke and low-voltage faults are covered in our troubleshooting guides, starting with overheating and high temperature. Spares for all makes are supplied from Hyderabad; a site kit of filters and belts saves a day.

Branch offices and long rentals in Khammam

Banks, insurers, finance companies and government offices in Khammam town usually sit on busy commercial roads, often on the first floor above shops, with little or no open space of their own. A rented generator for such a branch has to fit that reality. These are the points we settle before a branch set is dispatched:

  • Size from the branch’s real load. A typical branch runs computers and network equipment through a UPS, lighting, fans and split air conditioners. Air conditioning usually decides the size; the UPS needs headroom so that its charger and the computers do not see an unstable supply. Read our guide to UPS problems on generator supply if the UPS has ever alarmed on the generator.
  • Acoustic enclosure and position. The set stands in a rear lane, a setback or on a terrace where the building and its structure allow — never on a public footpath. It must not block the radiator air path, the exhaust must point away from windows and neighbours, and the owner’s permission for the position should be in writing.
  • Cable and changeover. A short, protected cable run to a changeover switch at the branch’s main board, installed by a licensed electrician and interlocked so the set cannot back-feed the supply. For branches with staff who change over by hand, the steps are written at the switch.
  • Running hours and service. Over a year-long rental the set can build up enough hours to need oil and filter changes; these are planned visits from the start, not breakdown calls.
  • Fuel. Branch sets usually run on their own tanks, refilled from cans. A simple register of litres added and hours run is the best protection against unexplained consumption.

The same approach scaled up serves hospitals, showrooms and offices in Kothagudem and Bhadrachalam.

Khammam summer readiness checklist

Run through this list in March, before the first heatwave, and again in mid-May.

  • Radiator core clean on both sides; no stone dust, coal dust, chilli husk or plastic sheet blocking it.
  • Coolant at the correct level and mix; no leaks at hoses and the water pump.
  • Fan belt tension correct and the belt not glazed or cracked.
  • Air filter changed or cleaned; restriction indicator reset.
  • Clear space in front of the radiator outlet and the enclosure air inlet; no hot-air recirculation.
  • Enclosure doors closed when running so that cooling air follows its designed path.
  • Battery tested; terminals clean; charger working.
  • Fuel tank above the reorder level; water drained from the tank bottom; delivery records up to date.
  • High coolant temperature and low oil pressure shutdowns tested by the service engineer.
  • A loaded test run of at least half an hour with the readings — kW, voltage, frequency, coolant temperature — written down.
  • Compressor or motor start delays confirmed in the panel so loads come on one at a time.
  • Night-shift staff know the changeover steps and the alarm meanings.
Never open a hot radiator cap, and never top up coolant while the engine is hot. Changeover and connection work must be done by competent, licensed electrical personnel, with an interlock that prevents back-feeding the TGNPDCL network.

Common mistakes

  • Choosing a set that is just big enough on paper, with no margin for 47 °C afternoons and condensers working at their hardest.
  • Planning outage cover in hours instead of litres, then finding a half-filled tank runs out overnight.
  • Letting granite dust, coal dust or chilli waste clog the radiator, then treating high-temperature trips as an engine fault.
  • Allowing all refrigeration compressors or motors to start together after a changeover.

What to send us

Send us the site’s location in Khammam or the Kothagudem region, the load list with the motor and compressor ratings and how they start, how many hours a day the set must run in summer, photographs of where the set will stand and of the main panel, the fuel storage available, and whether you want to rent, buy or put an existing set on service or AMC. Use the Generator rental enquiry, or WhatsApp the details and photographs.

Questions customers in Khammam ask

Do you provide generators on rent in Khammam?

Yes. We rent sets from our own fleet to offices, cold stores, contractors and events in Khammam and the Kothagudem region. A national life insurer’s Khammam branch has been among our rental customers. Availability and dispatch are confirmed when you book.

Can you supply a generator for a chilli cold storage in Khammam?

Yes, new, used or refurbished. We size the set from the refrigeration compressors, fans and starting arrangement, and leave margin for Khammam’s summer heat, then plan fuel autonomy in litres per hour.

Why does my generator trip on high temperature in the afternoon?

On Khammam’s mid-40s °C afternoons a set with a dirty radiator, a slack belt, low coolant or hot-air recirculation will overheat even at moderate load. Clean, check and clear the airflow first; our overheating guide lists the checks in order.

Do you service generators in Kothagudem, Paloncha and Bhadrachalam?

Yes. Our service area covers all of Telangana. The engineer’s travel time from Hyderabad is confirmed when you call, and AMC visits are planned in advance.

How much diesel does a generator use per hour?

It depends on the load in kW, not the set’s size. As an illustration, a set carrying 82 kW uses roughly 22 litres per hour; your set’s data sheet gives the exact figure at each load.

Do you buy used generators from granite units in Khammam?

Yes. We buy used generators and take sets in part exchange, and every used or refurbished set we sell is load-bank tested first.

Can you install an AMF panel for my Khammam office or cold store?

Yes. We supply and install AMF panels and changeovers with interlocking so that the generator can never back-feed the grid.
