In short. From April 2008, Reddy Generators rented 62.5 kVA acoustic diesel generators to the branch offices of a national life insurance company, starting with its Hyderabad and Secunderabad branches and Vijayawada in 2008, then adding a Hyderabad (Dilsukhnagar) branch in September 2009 and Khammam. Each set was a new acoustic unit with a standard panel and a monthly engineer’s visit. The contract was renewed year by year and ran until 2014, about six years, under one supplier across three cities.

The requirement
Insurance branches serve walk-in customers and process policies on networked systems, so a power cut stops business. The client’s facilities team in Bangalore needed dependable backup at branches in two states, specified to one standard and run by a single accountable supplier instead of separate vendors in each town.
One standard across three cities
The client’s specification called for a new acoustic 62.5 kVA set at each branch, a size that suits a typical office load of lighting, computers, servers and air conditioning. The contract was written as an annual rental with a one-month notice period, a monthly engineer’s visit, and diesel, cabling, foundation and transport charged at actual cost, which kept costs transparent for the client. Hyderabad, Secunderabad and Vijayawada started in 2008; a Hyderabad (Dilsukhnagar) branch followed in September 2009 with Reddy Generators providing the installation materials and labour, and Khammam was added under the same arrangement.
Outcome and limits
The branches were supplied from 2008 until 2014, with the contract renewed year by year. This record is based on the client’s letters of indent for Hyderabad, Secunderabad and Vijayawada, its purchase order for the Dilsukhnagar branch, and Reddy Generators’ contract records for Khammam; operating logs are not published.
Questions engineers ask about this project
Can one supplier handle generators for branches in different cities?
Yes. Here one contractor supplied and maintained 62.5 kVA sets at branches in Hyderabad, Secunderabad, Vijayawada and Khammam, so the client had one contract, one standard and one point of contact.
What size generator does a branch office need?
For a typical branch with lighting, computers, servers and air conditioning, 62.5 kVA is a common size. The right rating comes from the branch’s actual load list and its largest air-conditioning or lift motor.
What is included in a monthly office generator rental?
On this contract: a new acoustic set with a standard panel, a monthly engineer’s visit, cabling, foundation, transport and loading as required, with diesel billed at actual cost and a one-month notice period.
