Generators in Vijayawada: Rental, Sales and Service for Branches, Workshops, Hospitals and the Capital Region

In short. Reddy Generators rents generators from its own fleet, supplies new and used sets, and provides service, AMC, repairs and spares in Vijayawada, about 275 km from its Hyderabad base along NH 65. From 2008 the company rented 62.5 kVA acoustic sets to a national life insurer’s branches, and the insurer’s Vijayawada branch was added to that arrangement in later years. This page covers how generator work is planned for Vijayawada’s branches, workshops, hospitals and capital-region projects, with a worked cable example for a set that cannot stand next to the building.

Who this page is for: For branch and facility managers, workshop and factory owners, hospital administrators and contractors in Vijayawada and the capital region who need a generator on rent, a new or used set, or regular service — and want it planned properly from the first call.

Key facts

  • Distance from Hyderabad: about 275 km by road on NH 65, via Suryapet and Kodad — the shortest of our coastal Andhra routes, which makes planned visits and rental delivery practical.
  • Power distribution: APCPDCL, the central distribution company, which began operations in 2020 and is headquartered in Vijayawada.
  • Summer: May maximums are often above 40 °C, and the area recorded about 48–49 °C in May 2002. Heat derating and cooling airflow matter.
  • Floods: between 31 August and 9 September 2024, the Budameru rivulet overflowed and flooded low-lying areas such as Ajith Singh Nagar; outages extended across Krishna, NTR, Guntur and Bapatla districts.
  • Industry: Jawahar Lal Nehru Auto Nagar is among the largest automobile industrial estates in Asia; the Kondapalli industrial area covers about 450 acres with more than 800 units.

Vijayawada conditions, translated into generator decisions

Local condition Effect on the generator What to decide
Summer peaks above 45 °C, record about 48–49 °C Engine and alternator output falls above the data-sheet reference temperature; radiators struggle if hot air recirculates; high-temperature shutdowns in the afternoon Size with the maker’s ambient derating applied; keep a clear air path in and out of the canopy; never box a set into a narrow passage or a closed shed. See our summer precautions guide.
Low-lying areas along the Budameru and the Krishna Floodwater reaches batteries, starters, alternators and control panels; sets on ground-level plinths are written off or need rewinding Raise plinths and AMF panels above the 2024 flood level where your site was affected; mount the battery and controller high; plan to isolate and not start a set that has been under water.
Dense commercial streets and markets No space beside the building; the set ends up at the rear, on a terrace or in a parking area some distance from the main panel Plan the cable route and voltage drop at the enquiry stage (worked example below); choose acoustic sets for neighbours.
Busy highways and a major rail junction Easy road access from Hyderabad; heavy traffic at city entry points Rental delivery is planned for a time window agreed with the site; tell us about height limits, narrow lanes and unloading space.
Rapid capital-region construction Construction sites run on generator power for months before the permanent supply arrives Prime-rated rental or purchase, with refuelling control and planned service intervals.

Confirmed work in Vijayawada: branch generator rentals

A national life insurer’s branches in Hyderabad and Secunderabad rented 62.5 kVA acoustic generators from Reddy Generators from 2008. In later years the arrangement was extended to the insurer’s branches in Vijayawada and Khammam. The pattern suits any multi-branch organisation: one supplier, the same set size and panel arrangement at every branch, and service planned on a calendar instead of waiting for breakdowns. The project is described on the 62.5 kVA branch-office generators page.

How it works from Hyderabad

1

Enquiry and site details. Send the address, load list or electricity bill, photos of the main panel and the proposed set location, and whether you need rental, purchase, service or a repair. For branch networks, send all locations at once so visits can be grouped.
2

Sizing and cable route. We check the kVA with summer derating, the cable length from set to panel, and the changeover arrangement. Where the existing panel has no changeover, a suitable changeover or AMF panel is supplied and installed by licensed electricians.
3

Delivery and installation. Rental and new sets travel by road from Hyderabad. The date and time window are confirmed when you book; tell us about lane width, gate height and unloading space in advance.
4

Commissioning. Phase rotation, earthing, protection, load test and handover of the log book. Site staff are shown how to start, stop and read alarms.
5

Service and spares. Planned service visits are scheduled in advance from Hyderabad; filters, belts, batteries and common parts for all major makes are supplied. Overhauls, alternator rewinding and AVR or controller repairs are done on site or at our Hyderabad workshop as the job requires.

New sets are supplied through supply tie-ups with all major makes and meet CPCB IV+. Used and refurbished sets from 15 to 2,000 kVA are load-bank tested before sale; refurbished sets carry a six-month warranty (exclusions apply), and used as-is sets come with an inspection report. We also buy used sets and take sets in part exchange.

Worked example (illustrative): a rental set 120 metres from the panel

Illustrative case. A commercial building near a busy Vijayawada main road needs a 125 kVA rental set while its own generator is overhauled. There is no space at the front; the only safe, ventilated place is the rear parking yard, and the cable route to the main LT panel is about 120 metres. The question is which cable size keeps the voltage at the panel acceptable.

  1. Full-load current: 125,000 ÷ (1.732 × 415) ≈ 174 A.
  2. Voltage drop = (mV per amp per metre) × current × length ÷ 1,000. Using typical three-phase values for multicore copper cable:
Copper cable size Approx. mV/A/m (three-phase) Drop at 174 A over 120 m As % of 415 V
35 mm² 1.10 about 23.0 V about 5.5 % — too high, and the cable is also too small for the current
70 mm² 0.57 about 11.9 V about 2.9 %
95 mm² 0.42 about 8.8 V about 2.1 %
  1. Allowance: if the building’s own distribution already uses 2–3 % of the drop allowance between the main panel and the furthest load, the generator cable should stay near 2–3 % or less. 70 mm² is the minimum on voltage drop; 95 mm² gives margin for motor starting.
  2. Current rating in Vijayawada heat: voltage drop is only half the check. The cable’s current-carrying capacity must be derated for the ambient temperature — a cable lying in May sun on a hot yard surface carries less than its catalogue rating — and for grouping with other cables. In a case like this the derated capacity often pushes the choice to the next size up or to parallel runs. Our cable sizing calculator does both checks.
  3. Decision: 95 mm² copper (or the aluminium equivalent of larger section), checked for derated current, protected by a correctly set breaker at the set, with a properly rated changeover at the panel. The longer run is also why the set should be acoustic and positioned where its exhaust does not blow towards neighbouring windows.
Safety: temporary cables must be routed and protected against vehicles and water, terminated by a licensed electrician, and connected only through a changeover switch or AMF panel so the generator can never feed back into the APCPDCL network. Never connect a rental set by plugging into a socket or by joining it to the incoming supply cables.

After a flood: what to do with a generator that has been under water

The 2024 floods left many sets in Vijayawada standing in water. Starting a flooded engine can bend connecting rods if water has entered the cylinders, and energising a wet alternator can destroy the winding.

  • Do not start or crank the set. Keep clear of the set and panel until a competent electrician has isolated the mains supply to the panel; then have the battery disconnected.
  • Note the water height on the set — engine, alternator, panel — and photograph it.
  • Drain and check engine oil, fuel and air intake for water before any attempt to turn the engine.
  • Have the alternator dried and insulation-tested; rewinding may be needed if readings do not recover.
  • Replace the battery, controller and charger if they were submerged; check all wiring and sensors.
  • Run a load test before returning the set to automatic standby.

Branch networks: why one plan beats many separate rentals

Organisations with several premises in and around Vijayawada — banks, insurers, finance companies, retail chains, diagnostic centres — often end up with a different generator arrangement at every location, hired at different times from different suppliers. A single plan is easier to run: the same set size where the loads are similar, the same changeover arrangement, one log-book format, and service visits grouped on the same trip from Hyderabad so that no branch is missed. The insurer arrangement, which later added Vijayawada, followed this pattern.

Our alternator rewinding and controller diagnostics services cover this recovery work.

Common mistakes

  • Placing a rental set wherever there is space and then finding the cable to the panel is too long and too small, so lights dim and UPS units drop to battery when motors start.
  • Restarting a generator that stood in floodwater without draining and drying it first.
  • Sizing a branch or showroom set from a winter reading, then tripping on high temperature in May when every air conditioner is running.
  • Connecting a temporary set without a proper changeover, putting line crews and the set at risk when the grid returns.

What to send us

Send the full address of each premises with a landmark, the last three electricity bills or a load list, photos of the main LT panel and of the place where the generator would stand, the approximate cable distance between them, whether the site was affected by the 2024 flood, and whether you need rental (with the period), a new or used set, AMC or a repair. For several branches, list them all in one message. Use the Generator rental enquiry, or WhatsApp the details and photographs.
