In short. Reddy Generators sells used (second-hand) and refurbished diesel generators of all major makes, from 15 kVA to 2,000 kVA, with the AMF panel, changeover and installation work that make them a complete power system. Makes in stock vary and include Kirloskar, Cummins, Mahindra, Ashok Leyland, Perkins, Caterpillar, Eicher, Escorts, MTU and many more. Every set is inspected and test-run under load before it is offered, you get the inspection and test record with the machine, and refurbished sets carry a six-month warranty. “Used” and “second-hand” mean the same thing here: a set sold in its existing condition after inspection and testing. “Refurbished” means a set we have rebuilt, either completely or in the parts that needed it, before sale. Stock changes every week, so send your kVA and application and we will tell you what is available.
Used or refurbished: what the words mean on our quotation
| Term | What has been done | What you receive | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Used (second-hand) | Full inspection, service (oil, filters, coolant, belts, battery check), repairs needed to pass a load test, load-bank test | Inspection report, load-test record, hour-meter reading, known history where available | Standby duty, budget projects, short-term needs, sites with low running hours |
| Partially refurbished | Used-set work plus rebuilding of the items the inspection found at the end of their life: for example a top overhaul, radiator recore, alternator bearings and AVR, new controller or AMF panel, canopy repair and repaint | Everything above plus a list of the parts replaced and the work done, and a six-month warranty | Prime or regular standby duty where a new set is not justified |
| Fully refurbished (rebuilt) | Engine major overhaul (liners, pistons, rings, bearings, head work, injectors and pump), alternator rewinding or replacement where needed, new control panel, cooling system overhaul, new wiring, canopy restored | Rebuild record with part numbers, load test at 25, 50, 75 and 100%, six-month warranty | Long service life at a lower cost than new; sites that need a specific legacy make or model |
How we prepare a set before it is offered
- Identity and history. Engine and alternator serial numbers, year, hour-meter reading, service history where the previous owner kept it, and the emission-norm status of the set.
- Cold start and running inspection. Starting behaviour, oil pressure, coolant temperature, exhaust colour, leaks, vibration, governor and AVR response, and the controller’s alarm log.
- Measurements. Compression or blow-by where the engine type allows it, alternator insulation resistance, voltage and frequency at no load and full load, and the condition of batteries, charger and wiring.
- Decision: sell as used or refurbish. A set that passes on its own is prepared as a used set. A set with worn items is refurbished, partially or fully, and the work is listed on the quotation so you know exactly what is new.
- Load-bank test. Every set runs on our load bank before sale, stepped to full load, with the readings recorded. You are welcome to witness the test at our Pedda Amberpet workshop, by appointment.
- Documentation. Inspection report, load-test record, parts list for refurbished sets, and the warranty terms, all before you pay.
What we sell with the set
A generator on its own is not a power system. We supply and install the AMF panel or ATS, the changeover and cabling, earthing, exhaust and acoustic enclosure where needed, and we commission the set on your site across Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and the districts within about 300 km of Hyderabad. The same service engineers who prepared the set service it afterwards under an AMC, which is why we know its history better than anyone.
Warranty and what it covers
Refurbished sets carry a six-month warranty from the date of invoice on the work done and the parts fitted, with service calls attended by our own engineers. Used sets sold as inspected carry the inspection and load-test record as their statement of condition; any defect found during commissioning is corrected before handover. Rubber and plastic parts, consumables, fuel-quality damage, overloading and work by others are outside both. The exact terms are printed on every quotation.
When a used set is the right choice, and when it is not
- Right: standby duty with low annual running hours; a project with a fixed budget or a short life; a site that needs capacity quickly; a legacy make the customer’s staff already know.
- Think again: prime or continuous duty where fuel efficiency over ten years outweighs the price difference; sites under emission-control orders that require a CPCB IV+ set; loads that need a modern alternator for non-linear or motor-starting duty. In these cases we will say so and quote a new set or a rental instead.
Selling or trading in your generator
We also buy used generators and take sets in part exchange against a new or refurbished machine. Send the make, kVA, year, hours and photographs of the nameplate and control panel, and we will inspect and make an offer.
What to send us
Tell us the kVA or the load, standby or prime duty, the site location, the makes you prefer, and whether you need the panel, installation and AMC. Use the generator sales enquiry, WhatsApp 098852 01608 with the details, or visit our workshop at Pedda Amberpet, Hyderabad, by appointment, to see the sets in stock. For an independent check of a set you are buying elsewhere, see our used-generator inspection service.
Questions buyers ask
Is a used generator the same as a second-hand generator?
Yes. Both mean a set that has been in service before and is sold after inspection and a load test, without rebuilding. A refurbished set has been rebuilt, completely or in part, before sale.
What does “refurbished” include?
Whatever the inspection found necessary, listed on the quotation: from a top overhaul and new AVR (partial) to a complete engine rebuild, alternator rewinding and new control panel (full). The parts replaced are itemised so you know what is new.
Can I see the set run before I buy?
Yes. Every set is load-bank tested at our Pedda Amberpet workshop and you can witness the test by appointment. The readings are recorded and given to you.
What warranty does a refurbished generator carry?
Six months from the invoice date on the work done and parts fitted, with service by our own engineers. Rubber and plastic parts, consumables, fuel-quality damage and overloading are excluded.
Which makes and sizes are available?
Stock changes constantly and includes Kirloskar, Cummins, Mahindra, Ashok Leyland, Perkins, Caterpillar, Eicher, Escorts, MTU and many other makes, from 15 kVA to 2,000 kVA. Send your requirement and we will tell you what is in stock or coming in.
Can a used set meet current emission rules?
It depends on the site. A used set keeps the emission status it was built with. Where the pollution control board requires CPCB IV+ or a retrofit emission control device, we will tell you before you buy; see the emissions and transition section.
Do you buy used generators?
Yes, and we take sets in part exchange. Send the make, kVA, year, hours and nameplate photographs for an inspection and offer.
