7.5 kVA Generator in Hyderabad: What It Runs, Diesel Use and Price

In short. A 7.5 kVA generator delivers 6 kW at 0.8 power factor: about 32.6 A on a single-phase 230 V supply, or about 10.4 A per phase if it is a three-phase 415 V set. In Hyderabad it is the usual size for an independent house or duplex with one or two 1.5-ton ACs and a 1 HP borewell, or for a small office, clinic or shop. Reddy Generators supplies new 7.5 kVA sets through supply tie-ups with all major makes (every new set meets CPCB IV+), offers rental, and services all makes; our used and refurbished range starts at 15 kVA, so at this size the choice is a new set or a rental. The price is given on request. The numbers below are for this one rating.

Who this page is for: Owners of independent houses and duplexes, small offices, clinics and shops in Hyderabad who are weighing a 7.5 kVA diesel generator against an inverter or a larger set, and want to know exactly what it will run, how much diesel it will burn and how its price is put together before they ask for a quotation.

Key facts

  • Output: 7.5 kVA = 6.0 kW at 0.8 power factor. Plan summer running load at about 4.8–5 kW (80–85 % of rating).
  • Full-load current: about 32.6 A single-phase at 230 V (7.5 × 4.348); about 10.4 A per phase three-phase at 415 V (7.5 × 1.391).
  • Phase: single-phase is the common choice for houses and shops; three-phase versions exist but give only 2.5 kVA on each phase.
  • Diesel use (approximate): about 0.9–1.0 L/h at 50 % load (3 kW) and 1.3–1.45 L/h at 75 % load (4.5 kW), on a basis of 0.29–0.33 L per kWh. The make’s data sheet decides.
  • Noise: new sets come in a CPCB IV+ acoustic canopy with the silencer built in; the limit is 75 dB(A) at 1 m.
  • Breaker and cable (typical): single-phase, a 40 A double-pole MCB with 6 sq mm copper on a short run; three-phase, a 16–20 A four-pole MCB with 4 sq mm four-core copper. Confirm on our breaker and cable chart for your run length.
  • Typical uses: a house or duplex, a small office of six to ten people, a pharmacy, salon or retail shop, a consulting clinic, a small building’s pumps and common lights.
  • Used sets: not offered at this size; our used range starts at 15 kVA.

What a 7.5 kVA generator can run

The general method is on our under 15 kVA selection guide; here it is applied to Hyderabad load sets. Running figures are approximate and assume summer, when ACs draw the most; the starting allowance is the brief surge of the hardest load.

Load set (single-phase unless stated) Running load (approx.) Hardest start and allowance Fits 7.5 kVA?
2–3 BHK independent house: one 1.5-ton inverter AC, fridge, 8 fans, 20 LED lights, TV and router, 1 HP borewell about 3.4 kW (57 %) 1 HP pump: about 6–9 kVA for under a second Yes, comfortably
Duplex: two 1.5-ton ACs (one fixed-speed), the same house loads, inverter charging; pump on a timer about 4.4 kW (73 %); 5.4 kW if the pump runs too Fixed-speed AC: about 5–8.5 kVA Yes, if the pump does not run with both ACs
Three 1.5-ton ACs plus house loads about 5.5–6.4 kW Any AC or pump start on top of that No, not in a Hyderabad summer; choose 10 kVA
Small office, 6–8 people: PCs and laptops, router, printer, lights, one 2-ton AC, small UPS about 3.7 kW (62 %) 2-ton fixed-speed AC: about 7–11 kVA Yes; an inverter AC makes it comfortable
Pharmacy or retail shop: lights, medicine or display fridge, billing PC, one 1.5-ton AC, CCTV about 2.7 kW (45 %) AC compressor Yes, comfortably
4–6 flat building, no lift: 1.5 HP sump-to-overhead pump, common lights, gate and CCTV about 1.9 kW (32 %) 1.5 HP pump: about 9–10 kVA Yes, if the pump starts with little else on
Any building with a lift lift motor alone is 3.7 kW or more Lift start No; see our 15 kVA and 20 kVA pages

How many ACs can a 7.5 kVA generator run?

Two 1.5-ton split ACs, with lights, fans, a fridge and a TV. In a Hyderabad summer a fixed-speed 1.5-ton AC draws roughly 1.6–1.9 kW and an inverter model roughly 1.2–1.5 kW while pulling the room down. Two ACs and the house loads come to about 4.4 kW, inside the summer limit; a third pushes the set to full load on a 42 °C afternoon, with no room for a pump start.

AC type matters more than tonnage. An inverter AC ramps up gently; a fixed-speed AC starts against refrigerant pressure and asks for three to five times its running power for a fraction of a second. With two fixed-speed ACs, switch them on a minute apart, and never at the moment the borewell starts. On a three-phase 7.5 kVA set the answer changes sharply: each phase can supply only 2.5 kVA (2 kW), so one 1.5-ton AC per phase is the limit.

The largest motor it can start

Rule of thumb: a direct-on-line (DOL) motor start draws five to seven times its running kVA, and a 7.5 kVA set absorbs a single start of about one-and-a-half to two times its rating with an acceptable dip if little else is running. That gives:

  • Single-phase set: a 1 HP pump starts comfortably; a 1.5 HP pump is the practical limit and should start while the ACs are off or idling.
  • Three-phase set: a 1.5 HP three-phase motor comfortably; about 2 HP as the upper limit.

A 2 HP single-phase pump or a 3 HP three-phase submersible needs the 10 kVA class.

Generator or inverter for a Hyderabad house?

Many homes already have an inverter and ask whether a generator is needed at all. The arithmetic shows where each stops.

Question Home inverter with two 150 Ah, 12 V batteries 7.5 kVA diesel generator
Stored or available energy about 3.6 kWh nominal; about 1.8 kWh usable if the batteries are not to be ruined (roughly half depth of discharge) 6 kW for as long as there is diesel
Lights, fans, TV and router (about 0.85 kW) about 1.5–2 hours, allowing for inverter losses Yes, but this alone is a very light load for the set (about 14 %)
One 1.5-ton AC for a 3-hour evening outage No: needs about 4–4.5 kWh, more than twice the usable battery energy Yes
1 HP borewell Not practical: starting surge and battery drain Yes
Changeover gap None; lights stay on A few seconds with auto-start, longer with manual start

For most houses with ACs and a borewell, the sensible arrangement is both: the inverter bridges the gap for lights, fans and the router, and the generator takes the ACs and the pump. Count the inverter’s battery charging (300–500 W) as generator load, and note that some inverters reject generator power if voltage or frequency wanders; our guide to UPS problems on a generator explains the settings.

Diesel consumption per hour

Basis: specific fuel consumption, roughly 0.28–0.33 L per kWh between half and full load, and worse at light load, where the engine still turns at 1,500 rpm. The make’s data sheet decides; our guide on how to read a data sheet shows where to find the figure.

Load on a 7.5 kVA set Electrical load Basis (L per kWh, approx.) Diesel per hour (approx.) Hours per 35 L of usable fuel (illustrative)
25 % 1.5 kW 0.36–0.45 0.55–0.7 L/h about 50–65 h
50 % 3.0 kW 0.31–0.33 0.9–1.0 L/h about 35–39 h
75 % 4.5 kW 0.29–0.32 1.3–1.45 L/h about 24–27 h
100 % 6.0 kW 0.28–0.31 1.7–1.85 L/h about 19–21 h

Base tanks vary by make; 35 litres usable is an illustration, not a specification. Light load is the trap at this size: lights and fans alone keep the set below 20 % load, which leaves unburnt fuel and carbon. See our note on light-load running and wet stacking, or let the inverter cover those hours.

Hours × litres per hour, then multiply by the day’s diesel rate.

Single phase or three phase at 7.5 kVA

At this size, the generator must match the building’s supply, not the other way round.

  • Single-phase 7.5 kVA fits a single-phase house, shop or office; the whole 6 kW is available to any circuit, which helps AC and pump starts.
  • Three-phase 7.5 kVA fits only a three-phase building whose loads can be spread, such as a small workshop with a three-phase motor. Each phase carries only 2.5 kVA, about 10.4 A.
  • Imbalance limit: most makes allow roughly 10–20 % difference between phases; the data sheet decides. A three-phase 7.5 kVA set with two ACs on one phase is overloaded on that phase while showing only about half load overall.
Do not use a three-phase set for a single-phase house. One phase gives only 2.5 kVA of the 7.5 kVA, and joining phases to “get the full output” is dangerous and never done. Connection must be through a proper changeover, made by a competent licensed electrician, so the set can never back-feed the DISCOM line.

Illustrative case: a duplex in a Hyderabad suburb

Illustrative case. A single-phase G+1 duplex has two 1.5-ton ACs (bedroom inverter, hall fixed-speed), a 1 HP borewell, a fridge, ten fans, twenty LED lights, a TV, router and a home inverter. The owner wants both ACs during summer evening outages.

Load Running (approx.)
Inverter AC, summer evening 1.3 kW
Fixed-speed AC, summer evening 1.7 kW
Fans: 8 of 10 running at 60 W 0.48 kW
LED lights: 20 at 10 W 0.20 kW
Fridge, TV and router 0.30 kW
Home inverter recharging 0.40 kW
Subtotal without pump 4.38 kW (73 % of 6 kW)
1 HP borewell (input) 1.0 kW
Everything together 5.38 kW (90 %)

Everything together exceeds the summer limit, and a start on top of 4.4 kW is the real risk. The fix costs nothing: the pump runs only when the hall AC is off (usually a morning timer), giving 5.38 − 1.7 = 3.68 kW, or 61 %. Both ACs without the pump is 73 %. A single-phase 7.5 kVA set is right; 10 kVA would mostly run under half load.

Fuel: at 4.38 kW, using 0.30 L per kWh, the set burns 4.38 × 0.30 = about 1.3 L/h. A three-hour outage uses about 3.9 L; forty outage hours a month, about 52–53 L.

How the price of a 7.5 kVA set is worked out

The same 7.5 kVA rating is built and supplied in several ways, so there is no fixed figure. Our diesel generator price guide explains the general drivers and how to compare quotations; these are the ones that move the price at 7.5 kVA.

  • Single phase or three phase. The alternator and the panel differ. Choose by your supply, not by the quote.
  • Make and engine type. Engines at this rating differ in cylinder count, cooling and design life; a water-cooled 1,500 rpm diesel suits daily summer running.
  • Silent canopy. Standard under CPCB IV+, with the silencer inside; material and finish vary.
  • Manual or auto-start. Manual start with a changeover switch is simplest; auto-start with an AMF panel suits clinics, elderly residents and houses often left empty.
  • Battery and controller. Electric start with a battery is standard; controllers range from basic meters to digital units with fault history and remote alerts.
  • Fuel tank. The base tank sets how often you refuel.
  • Warranty. Period and running-hour limits differ by make; read both.
  • New or rent. At 7.5 kVA it is new or rental only; used sets start at 15 kVA.

On a new-set quotation the plinth, cable, earthing and changeover are separate lines from the set itself, so check that two offers include the same items.

Installation and site needs in Hyderabad

  • Footprint: a silent 7.5 kVA set is roughly 1.5–2.0 m long, 0.8–1.0 m wide and 1.1–1.3 m high, weighing roughly 450–750 kg. The make decides; we confirm from its drawing.
  • Clearance: about 1 m at the service doors and 1–1.5 m at the radiator discharge, so hot air does not recirculate.
  • Plinth: level concrete, slightly larger than the base frame; in colonies that flood in the monsoon, 150–300 mm above the highest water seen in the lane.
  • Terrace placement: a 600 kg set on about 1.5 sq m puts roughly 400 kg per sq m on the slab, well above what a typical house roof is designed to carry as live load (roughly 150–200 kg per sq m). Get a structural engineer to approve the position, usually over beams on a steel frame.
  • Exhaust: point the outlet away from your own windows, the neighbour’s windows and the lane. The CPCB stack guideline adds 0.2 × √kVA to the building height, about 0.55 m above the roof at 7.5 kVA; ask whether your society or site requires the pipe taken up.
  • Earthing: separate earth electrodes for the neutral and the body, as in our DG set earthing guide.
  • Cable and breaker: from the full-load current chart and the run length.
  • Summer heat: April and May afternoons often pass 40 °C, so keep running load within about 80–85 % and the radiator clean; our summer precautions list the checks.

Load-list worksheet for a 7.5 kVA decision

Fill in the last three columns, total the running watts marked Y, and send a photo with your enquiry. Above about 4,800 W, or with two fixed-speed ACs and a pump, price the next size too.

Load Typical running watts (approx.) Starting behaviour Quantity at your site On generator? (Y/N) Running watts × quantity
1.5-ton split AC, inverter 1,200–1,500 W in summer Low (soft start)
1.5-ton split AC, fixed speed 1,600–1,900 W in summer High: 3–5 × running
1 HP borewell or sump pump (single-phase) about 1,000 W High: 5–7 × running
Refrigerator (double door) 150–250 W Moderate
Ceiling fan (each) 50–75 W None
LED light (each) 9–20 W None
TV, set-top box, Wi-Fi router 150–250 W together None
Home inverter charging its batteries 300–500 W while charging None
Water heater (geyser) 2,000–3,000 W None, but keep it off the generator

Common mistakes

  • Buying a three-phase 7.5 kVA set for a single-phase house: only 2.5 kVA is available on the phase the house uses.
  • Expecting three 1.5-ton ACs and a borewell to run together on 6 kW in a Hyderabad summer.
  • Connecting the set through a plug in a wall socket instead of a proper changeover switch, which can back-feed the DISCOM line and endanger linemen.
  • Running the set every night for lights and fans alone, at under 20 % load, which carbons up the engine; leave those hours to the inverter.

What to send us

For a price, tell us whether you want to buy new or rent (used sets start at 15 kVA), whether your supply is single-phase or three-phase, and whether you want manual start or auto-start with an AMF panel. Add the site location in or outside Hyderabad, the load list (or the worksheet above) or photographs of your distribution board and the AC and pump nameplates, the date you need the set, and for a rental, how long you need it. Use the generator sales enquiry, or WhatsApp the details and photographs.

Questions buyers ask about 7.5 kVA generators

What is the price of a 7.5 kVA generator in Hyderabad?

There is no single figure, because the price changes with the make and engine, single or three phase, manual or auto-start, controller, tank and warranty, and diesel generator prices also move with the market. A new-set price excludes GST, transport and installation. Send us your phase, the loads you want to run and the site location on WhatsApp, and we send a written quotation with each item listed.

How much diesel does a 7.5 kVA generator use per hour?

Approximately 0.9–1.0 litres per hour at half load (3 kW) and 1.3–1.45 litres per hour at three-quarter load (4.5 kW). At full load it is about 1.7–1.85 litres per hour. These figures use 0.28–0.33 litres per kWh; the make’s data sheet gives the exact figure.

How many ACs can a 7.5 kVA generator run?

Two 1.5-ton split ACs with lights, fans, a fridge and a TV, on a single-phase set. Inverter ACs are easier on the generator; with fixed-speed ACs, switch them on a minute apart and not while the borewell starts. On a three-phase 7.5 kVA set it is one 1.5-ton AC per phase.

How many amps is a 7.5 kVA generator?

About 32.6 A at 230 V single-phase (7,500 ÷ 230), or about 10.4 A per phase at 415 V three-phase (7,500 ÷ (1.732 × 415)).

How much load can a 7.5 kVA generator take?

6 kW at 0.8 power factor. For a Hyderabad summer, plan on about 4.8–5 kW of continuous running load, and keep room for the starting surge of the largest motor, which is a 1 HP to 1.5 HP pump on a single-phase set.

Does a 7.5 kVA generator need a separate silencer?

No. A new CPCB IV+ set comes in an acoustic canopy with the silencer inside, and the noise limit is 75 dB(A) at 1 m. You may need an exhaust extension pipe to take the gas away from windows or above the roof, but the silencer itself should not be altered.

Is a second-hand 7.5 kVA generator available?

Not from us. Our used and refurbished range starts at 15 kVA, with every set load-bank tested. At 7.5 kVA the route is a new set or a rental; if your load is close to the limit, a used 15 kVA set is worth comparing.

Can I rent a 7.5 kVA generator in Hyderabad?

Yes, ask with your dates and site. The availability of a set of this size for your dates is confirmed when you ask. The rental rate covers the generator only; transport is at actuals and in your scope, and cable and an operator are charged extra if you need them.
