In short. Reddy Generators supplies new CPCB IV+ diesel generators in Hyderabad and Secunderabad, from small single-phase sets to large industrial sets, and handles the whole job: sizing, make and model selection, delivery and crane, foundation, installation, AMF panel and changeover, commissioning and after-sales service. Because we are not tied to one manufacturer, the quotation starts from your load and your site rather than from a model that has to be sold.
Who this page is for: Building owners, apartment associations, hospitals, offices, factories, consultants and contractors in Hyderabad and Secunderabad buying a new diesel generator, who want the right size and make, a set that will be accepted by neighbours and inspectors, and an installation that works first time.
Key facts
- We have supply tie-ups with all major makes, for example Cummins, Kirloskar, Mahindra, Ashok Leyland, Perkins, CAT, FG Wilson, Greaves, MTU, Eicher, Escorts, Kohler and Honda.
- New diesel sets up to 800 kW meet the CPCB IV+ emission norms and come in acoustic enclosures; larger sets are supplied to the norms that apply to their rating.
- Size from measured or properly estimated load and the largest motor start, not from the building’s connected load.
- In residential Hyderabad, where the set stands and where its exhaust points matter as much as its enclosure rating.
- After sale, we provide service and maintenance; AMC, spares, overhauls and part exchange of your old set are all available.
Buying a new set: the sequence
Sizing for a Hyderabad site
Start from a load list, with every item that must run on the generator and its running kW. Mark the largest motor (lift, pump, chiller compressor) and how it starts. Then apply realistic diversity, add a sensible margin for growth, and check that the set can start the largest motor while the rest of the load runs. Our generator sizing guide and the kVA and kW sizing calculator walk through the method; motor starting covers the step-load check.
Two Hyderabad specifics change the answer. First, summer afternoons in the 40s °C coincide with peak air-conditioning load, so check the set’s rated ambient and derating on the data sheet (see ambient temperature derating). Second, many apartment and office buildings allow some air-conditioning on generator supply through DG sub-meters; that allowance, not the common load, often decides the size.
Local conditions translated into specification
| Hyderabad condition | Specification decision |
|---|---|
| Peak summer ambient in the 40s °C | Confirm rated ambient and derating; enough clearance for intake and outlet air; no outlet facing a nearby wall |
| Dense housing and night outages | Acoustic enclosure as standard; positioning and exhaust direction planned against the nearest windows (see noise section) |
| Monsoon cloudbursts and local waterlogging | Plinth raised above the site’s known water level; sealed cable entries; drainage around the plinth |
| Space-constrained setbacks, stilt parking and terraces | Footprint, service clearance and crane reach checked at survey; structural check before any terrace installation |
| Long idle months after the monsoon | Battery charger, controller with test scheduling, and a plan for monthly runs on real load |
| Sensitive loads: UPS, IT, medical equipment | Alternator and AVR suited to non-linear load; governor response checked; see UPS on generator problems |
Typical sites and set sizes in Hyderabad
| Site | Typical size | Duty | Usually specified with |
|---|---|---|---|
| Independent house or villa | 7.5–25 kVA | Standby | Changeover or small AMF panel; quiet placement |
| Shops, clinics, small offices | 10–40 kVA | Standby | Single- or three-phase to match supply; AMF panel |
| Apartment block or gated community | 62.5–500 kVA, sometimes two sets | Standby with long runs in outages | AMF panel, DG sub-metering allowance, acoustic positioning |
| Hospital or nursing home | 125–1,000 kVA, often N+1 | Critical standby | Fast transfer, fuel autonomy, maintenance bypass |
| IT or commercial office building | 250–2,000 kVA, multiple sets | Standby behind UPS | Synchronising panels, load management |
| Pharma, engineering or food unit in an industrial area | 125–1,500 kVA | Standby or prime | Motor starting study; process restart sequence |
Comparing makes and quotations
Quotations look similar on paper and differ in the details. Put them in one table before choosing:
| Compare | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Rating basis: standby or prime, kVA and kW, at what ambient | The same kVA figure can mean different usable power |
| Engine: cylinders, displacement, aspiration, governing | Response to load steps and engine life at your duty |
| Alternator: frame, insulation class, temperature rise, AVR type, excitation | Motor starting, non-linear load handling and fault current |
| Fuel consumption at 50 %, 75 % and 100 % load | Running cost over the life of the set |
| Emission after-treatment and any diesel exhaust fluid requirement | Some CPCB IV+ models need a urea-based fluid and its storage; confirm for each model |
| Acoustic enclosure sound level and the measurement distance | Decides placement in residential areas |
| Controller features: AMF, remote monitoring, event log | Diagnosis speed and unattended operation |
| Fuel tank capacity and runtime at your load | Refuelling frequency during long outages |
| Scope included: delivery, crane, foundation, cabling, earthing, AMF panel, exhaust, commissioning | Low quotations often leave these out |
| Warranty terms and who provides service | What happens when it fails in year two |
Our guide to how to read a data sheet explains each line.
Noise and the acoustic enclosure in residential areas
CPCB IV+ diesel sets are supplied in acoustic enclosures that limit noise at a fixed distance from the set. That does not automatically make the set quiet at a neighbour’s bedroom window. In open conditions, sound from a compact source falls by about 6 dB(A) each time the distance doubles; hard walls nearby reflect sound back and reduce that benefit, and the exhaust outlet is often the loudest point. Ambient noise standards for residential areas are considerably lower at night than in the day. Practical rules:
- Place the set as far as practical from the nearest windows, with the canopy’s quieter side facing them.
- Point the exhaust upward and away from buildings, at a height that clears nearby windows.
- Avoid narrow gaps between two walls, which channel and reflect sound.
- Where distance is not available, a barrier wall or additional exhaust silencing can be engineered.
See acoustic enclosures for construction details.
Delivery, foundation and installation
Hyderabad sites are often tight. Check the truck route, gate width and height, overhead cables, and where a crane can stand and reach. The plinth must be level and strong enough for the set’s operating weight, with its top above local water levels and anti-vibration mounts as specified by the maker. The exhaust must be routed with the fewest bends, supported independently of the engine, and terminated away from windows and intakes (see generator exhaust pipe). Cables are sized for current and voltage drop (breaker, changeover and cable size chart), and earthing is installed and tested before energisation (earthing and neutral grounding). Our generator installation team handles the work end to end.
AMF panel and changeover
An AMF (automatic mains failure) panel starts the set when the grid fails, transfers the load once voltage and frequency are stable, and returns it when the grid is back, with the generator and grid interlocked so they can never be connected together. For simpler sites a manual changeover may be enough. We supply and install AMF panels and changeover arrangements; see AMF panels. All connection work is done by competent, licensed people.
Approvals: the generic steps
Requirements depend on the set’s size, the installation and current rules, so confirm them for your project. Typically:
- Emission compliance: the set carries the type-approval and conformity documents and nameplate for the applicable CPCB norms; keep copies.
- Electrical safety: where the rules require it, the installation is inspected and approved by the state’s electrical inspection authority before it is put into regular use.
- Environmental consent: some installations and industries need consent from the state pollution control board; your consultant or our team can check whether yours does.
- Building, fire and fuel storage: placement must respect the building’s approved plans and fire safety arrangements, and fuel storage above certain quantities is regulated.
- Society or landlord approval for position, exhaust and noise, in writing.
Commissioning and after-sales
Commissioning proves the installation, not just the set: insulation and earthing tests, phase rotation, protection settings, a run on real load or a load bank, AMF transfer and return, and alarm checks. Handover includes operator training and a log book. See our commissioning checklist and commissioning service. After that, we service the set, with warranty claims handled as per the maker’s terms, with AMC, spares and overhauls for all makes. If you are replacing an old set, we can take it in part exchange; if budget is tight, a load-bank-tested refurbished set with a six-month warranty is an alternative.
Worked example: a new set for an apartment block
Illustrative case. A 60-flat apartment block in the western suburbs is replacing a worn-out set.
- Common load: lifts, pumps, sewage treatment plant and lighting total 55 kW.
- Flat load on DG: each flat is allowed 1.5 kW on generator supply; with a diversity of 0.6, 60 × 1.5 × 0.6 = 54 kW.
- Total: 55 + 54 = 109 kW; at a power factor of 0.8, 109 ÷ 0.8 ≈ 136 kVA.
- Choice: a 160 kVA set (128 kW) would run at 85 % on a summer afternoon, with little room for a lift start or summer derating. A 180 kVA set (144 kW) runs at 76 %, and the lift-start step is checked against the model’s transient data before ordering.
- Noise: suppose the chosen enclosure is quoted at 75 dB(A) at 1 m (use the figure on the actual data sheet). At the planned position, the nearest bedroom window is 12 m away: 75 − 20 × log₁₀(12) ≈ 53 dB(A) in open conditions, and more with reflections from nearby walls. Moving the set to a corner 25 m from the nearest window gives 75 − 20 × log₁₀(25) ≈ 47 dB(A), and the exhaust is turned upward, away from the block.
The association’s order now states a size it can defend, a position its residents can live with, and a scope that includes AMF panel, cabling, earthing, exhaust and commissioning.
Purchase checklist
- Load list with running kW, the largest motor and how it starts, and any DG allowance for flats or tenants.
- Duty defined: standby or prime, expected hours per year, longest outage to cover.
- Site survey done: position, crane and truck access, airflow, exhaust route, cable route, earthing, fuel.
- Quotations compared in one table on rating basis, engine, alternator, fuel consumption, after-treatment, sound level, controller and scope.
- CPCB IV+ documentation and nameplate confirmed for the offered model.
- Noise checked against the nearest windows, with exhaust direction agreed.
- AMF panel or changeover included and interlocked.
- Approvals required for your installation identified and assigned.
- Commissioning tests, operator training and handover documents written into the order.
- After-sales arranged: warranty terms, AMC and spares; part exchange of the old set if replacing.
Common mistakes
- Choosing on kVA and price alone without checking the rating basis, rated ambient and fuel consumption at your actual load.
- Accepting a quotation that excludes crane, foundation, cabling, earthing, exhaust, AMF panel or commissioning, then paying for them separately.
- Placing the set where it is convenient for the builder rather than where noise and exhaust will not reach bedroom windows.
- Ignoring motor starting, so a lift or pump start trips the new set on its first outage.
What to send us
Send the site address and type of building, a load list or the old set’s details and how heavily it was loaded, any DG allowance for flats or tenants, photographs of the proposed position, the access route and the main distribution board, the approximate distance to the changeover point, and whether you have an old set to exchange. With that we can propose suitable models, a scope and a programme. Use the Generator sales enquiry, or WhatsApp the details and photographs.
