In short. A product or capability update should say exactly what is available or supported, for which equipment and under what conditions. A manufacturer’s new model, a set in stock at our Pedda Amberpet workshop and a new service capability are three different claims needing three different kinds of evidence. Read every update as a starting point and confirm configuration, availability and scope in a written offer before committing.
Three kinds of update, three kinds of evidence
Updates on a generator supplier’s site tend to blur together. Separating them makes it clear what each one actually tells you.
| Type of update | What it can tell you | What it cannot tell you | Evidence behind it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Manufacturer product | A model, rating range, emission stage and main features exist | That it is in stock locally, its lead time or the options in your offer | Manufacturer data sheet and revision |
| Stock or rental availability | A specific unit or fleet size is available for a stated period | That it will still be available when you order | Unit identity, condition record, date of the notice |
| Service capability | A type of work can now be done, for stated equipment and locations | Response time or price for your site | Tools, trained staff, facilities and completed work records |
A brochure from an engine maker is useful background, but it does not establish a dealership, stock holding or the ability to service that engine. Reddy Generators works on sets from many makers, including Cummins, Kirloskar, Mahindra, Perkins, CAT and others seen in our workshop. Experience with a make is stated as experience, nothing more.
Reading a product announcement
A meaningful product update identifies the model, the applicable specification and the duty definition. The duty matters because a standby rating, a prime rating and a continuous rating for the same set can differ by around ten percent or more, and ISO 8528 defines each one differently. Check which rating the headline figure refers to; see standby power and prime power. Then check the details that change between versions: emission stage, controller model, alternator frame, enclosure noise level and whether the set is supplied with a fuel tank in the base frame. Regional versions and running changes by the manufacturer mean two sets with the same model name can differ.
CPCB IV+ launches
Many recent product updates in India concern CPCB IV+ sets. The useful questions are what aftertreatment the engine uses, whether it needs diesel exhaust fluid, what fuel quality and filter changes it requires, and what diagnostic tool is needed for service. These affect running cost and service planning more than the headline rating does.
Used and refurbished equipment updates
An update about a used or refurbished set should describe its actual status. Descriptions such as previously operated and inspected to a defined scope, engine overhauled with alternator in existing condition, or load-bank tested to 100 percent of prime rating for two hours each make a specific, checkable claim. Descriptions such as excellent condition do not. Stock pages exist only while a specific unit is genuinely available and are removed when it is sold. Buyback or exchange of an existing set is an assessment-led process; there is no instant valuation, because value depends on hours, condition, emission stage and demand. See used generator inspection for what a buyer should ask for.
Service capability updates
When a new service capability is announced, such as load-bank testing to a higher rating, alternator rewinding, controller diagnostics for a new family or fuel polishing, the update should state the equipment covered, the locations served, the facilities and people involved and what is included. Remote monitoring is a good example: it may be included in one service tier, optional in another and impossible on a set whose controller has no communication port. Load-bank testing and fuel polishing are typically scoped separately rather than silently included in an AMC. The services overview at generator services lists what is currently offered.
Downloads and documents
Data sheets, capability notes and checklists published for download should carry a purpose, a revision and an issue date. They are prepared to be shared with consultants, procurement teams and facility managers, and they are preliminary information unless a written quotation, rental agreement or service contract incorporates them. Customer names and logos appear only with permission; otherwise project evidence is anonymised. Request the current revision when preparing a tender or coordinating an installation, using the Technical Library as the index.
Common mistakes
- Ordering from a launch announcement without a current offer; the configuration supplied differs in controller or enclosure from what was assumed.
- Comparing a standby rating from one supplier with a prime rating from another; the cheaper set is effectively smaller.
- Treating a stock notice as a reservation; the unit is sold before the purchase order is raised.
- Assuming an AMC includes remote monitoring or load-bank testing because an update mentioned them; the first outage reveals the gap.
What to send us
If an update is relevant to a requirement, send the application, site location, required kVA and duty, voltage and phase, the date you need the equipment and any specification or tender clause you must meet. For a service capability question, send the generator nameplate photograph and the work you need. Send your generator sales enquiry and we will confirm current configuration and availability in writing.
Questions engineers ask
Why do brand names appear on the Reddy Generators site?
Brand names appear because we sell, service or supply parts for sets of those makes. That describes our working experience, not a status granted by the manufacturer. Ask for the specific support available for your model.
How current is a stock or rental availability notice?
Only as current as its date. Availability changes daily, so confirm by enquiry before relying on it for a project programme.
Why do two quotes for the same kVA differ so much?
They often differ in rating basis, emission stage, controller, enclosure noise level, fuel tank size, alternator frame and what installation, cabling and commissioning are included. Compare line by line on the same basis.
Can you prepare a capability note for a tender?
Yes, on request, limited to capabilities that are current and supported by records. It will state its revision and date and will not include customer names without permission.
