In short. Choose a generator supplier by how well they understand your load, how they support the set after installation, and how they respond when it fails. Reddy Generators has worked from Tarnaka, Secunderabad since 2002, covering diesel generator sales, rental, installation, service, AMC and spare parts for all common makes from one team. We start with what must keep running, not with the machine, and we tell you plainly what is verified and what still needs checking.
The right first question
The question we hear most often is which generator is cheapest for a given kVA. It is rarely the question that decides whether the purchase works. The questions that decide it are what must keep running during an outage, what load must actually be carried, what the hardest starting event is, how the load will transfer when mains fails, how long the set must run, and who will maintain it. Asking these at the start avoids the two commonest outcomes we are called in to fix: a set that cannot start the plant’s largest motor, and a set that is so oversized it never runs properly.
How we work
Engineering before equipment
The requirement defines the machine. We take a load list, identify motors and their starting method, look for UPS and variable-speed drives that affect the alternator, and size from there. A data centre and a stone quarry can both need 500 kVA and need completely different machines, controls and service plans. Our power engineering centre sets out the methods we use.
The whole system, not just engine and alternator
A generator only protects the business when the sensing, AMF logic, changeover or ATS, protection, cabling, earthing and fuel supply all work together. We look at that whole chain, because most standby failures we attend are not engine failures. They are a flat battery, a disabled auto mode, a failed contactor or a fuel line full of air.
Root cause, not parts replacement
When a set fails, the aim is not to swap parts until the alarm clears. It is to observe, measure, find the cause, correct it and verify the result under load. That approach costs a little more time on the first visit and much less over the life of the set.
Plain statements about data and availability
Where information is typical for a product family, we call it representative. Where model verification is required, we say so. Where we do not know whether a part or a rental set is available, we check before we promise. We sell and service all major makes through our supply tie-ups.
One team across the life of the set
| Stage | What we provide | Where to read more |
|---|---|---|
| Selection | Load assessment, sizing, CPCB IV+ set selection, panel and changeover design | Generator systems |
| Installation | Foundation, cabling, earthing, exhaust, fuel system, AMF or ATS panel, commissioning | Generator services |
| Temporary power | Rental sets for outages, projects, events and breakdown cover | Rental and temporary power |
| Operation | Preventive maintenance, AMC, breakdown diagnostics, load bank testing | Annual maintenance contracts |
| Parts | Genuine and compatible spares verified by model and serial | Generator spare parts |
| End of life | Overhaul, refurbishment, relocation or replacement planning | Upgrade and replacement planning |
Because one team handles all of these, the engineer who sized the set can talk to the technician who services it, and the service history informs the next purchase. Makes we regularly work on include Cummins, Kirloskar, Mahindra, Perkins, CAT, FG Wilson, Greaves, Eicher, Honda and TMTL.
How to compare generator suppliers
If you are comparing three quotations, these are the questions that separate them. Ask each supplier to answer in writing.
- What load list and starting assumptions was the kVA based on?
- Is the rating quoted standby or prime, at what ambient, and is it the CPCB IV+ approved model?
- What is included: panel, changeover, cables, earthing, exhaust extension, fuel piping, transport, unloading, commissioning?
- What test will be done at handover, and will it include a mains failure transfer under load?
- Who services the set, how fast do they attend, and where do spare parts come from?
A cheaper quotation that excludes cabling, earthing and commissioning is not cheaper. The rent versus buy and lifecycle cost guides help compare options over the life of the equipment.
Experience from more than two decades
Reddy Generators is led by Srinivas Reddy, Managing Partner, a service engineer with more than twenty years in the industry who reviews the engineering guidance on this site. That experience shows in small, practical things: allowing for Hyderabad summer derating, checking battery chargers before every monsoon, keeping AMF drawings in the panel, and testing transfer at commissioning rather than assuming it.
Watch
Common mistakes
- Comparing quotations on kVA and price alone, which hides differences in rating basis, scope and after-sales support that cost more later.
- Buying without a load list, which leads to a set that trips on motor starting or runs permanently underloaded.
- Leaving the changeover and AMF design to the last week, which delays commissioning and often results in an untested transfer.
- Choosing a supplier with no service capability near the site, which turns a minor fault into a long outage.
What to send us
Send your load list or main incomer rating, the loads that must stay on during an outage, the site location with photographs of the proposed set position, and the voltage and phase. If you already have a set, include its nameplate photograph, hours run and recent service history. Send a generator sales enquiry, or contact us by phone or WhatsApp on 098852 01608.
Questions engineers ask
Which generator brands do you supply and service?
We supply and service diesel generators of all common makes, including Cummins, Kirloskar, Mahindra, Perkins, CAT, FG Wilson, Greaves, Eicher, Honda and TMTL. We sell all major makes through our supply tie-ups, and we confirm parts and model data against the manufacturer for each set.
Do you handle installation as well as supply?
Yes. We plan and install the set with its foundation, cabling, earthing, exhaust, fuel system and AMF or ATS panel, and we commission it with a functional and load test. The scope is stated in the quotation item by item.
Can you service a generator you did not supply?
Yes. Much of our service and AMC work is on sets supplied by others. We start with a condition inspection and record the equipment identity so that parts and settings can be matched correctly.
Where are you located?
Our office is in Tarnaka, Secunderabad, and our workshop is at Pedda Amberpet, Hyderabad (visits by appointment). You can reach us on 098852 01608 by phone or WhatsApp, or by email at info@reddygenerators.com.
We serve all of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh and every district within about 300 km of Hyderabad, with project support across India. See the areas we serve.
