What an AMC actually buys
Scheduled preventive visits — inspection, oil and filter work per the service schedule, battery and charger checks, load run, and a written report after each visit; priority breakdown response between visits; and one accountable service engineer who knows your machine’s history. The alternative, calling for service only when the set fails, always looks cheaper until the failure happens during the outage the set existed for. Standby sets fail from neglect far more often than from use.
The five things that set the AMC price
- Rating. A 500 kVA service visit takes more time, more oil and bigger filters than a 30 kVA one; the contract scales accordingly.
- Visit frequency. Quarterly suits most standby duty; monthly suits prime-duty and critical sets; some contracts add monsoon-readiness checks. More visits, more cost, fewer surprises.
- Parts basis. A labour-only AMC bills consumables and parts as used; a comprehensive AMC folds defined consumables in. Comprehensive costs more per year and removes argument per visit — pick by how you prefer to budget.
- Location. Visits inside Hyderabad–Secunderabad price lowest; district sites carry travel. We run AMC routes across Telangana and AP, so route density often softens distance for common areas.
- Criticality. A hospital theatre set or substation fire-pump engine carries tighter response commitments than a shop standby — the commitment, not the visit, is what prices.
How to compare two AMC quotations
Ask both for: visits per year and the checklist per visit; what consumables are included; breakdown response time in writing; whether load testing is in scope; parts pricing basis for repairs; and who actually attends — employed engineers or subcontractors. Labour-only budgets lower and bills parts as used; comprehensive costs more and makes the year predictable. Fleets and critical sites usually prefer comprehensive; single light-duty sets often run labour-only well.
Do you take AMCs for generators you did not sell?
