In short. The right part starts with the right identification. Send the engine, alternator and controller nameplate details plus a photo of the part, and we will match it. Guessing from kVA or the brand name alone often gives the wrong part.
What to collect
| Item | Where to find it |
|---|---|
| Engine make, model, serial number | Engine nameplate on the block |
| Alternator make, model, serial number | Alternator nameplate |
| Genset model, kVA, year | Canopy or base-frame plate |
| Controller / AVR / ATS model | Panel label |
| Part number | Old part, filter body, manual |
Photographs that help
- Each nameplate, close and readable.
- The old part from two sides.
- Where it fits, with surroundings.
- Any numbers cast or stamped on it.
Common spare categories
- Filters: oil, fuel, air.
- Batteries and starting system. See battery starting system.
- Controllers, AVR and sensors.
- Belts, hoses, coolant parts.
- ATS and switchgear parts. See ATS service.
Tips
- Do not rely on kVA alone; the same kVA can use different engines.
- Check hours; wear parts depend on service history.
- For emissions equipment, include model and certificate details.
For routine care see preventive maintenance and AMC.
Where the identifying data sits
| Component | Where to look | Data to record |
|---|---|---|
| Engine | Metal plate on the engine block or near the fuel pump; sometimes stamped on the block | Make, model, serial number, rated power and speed, build date |
| Alternator | Plate on the alternator frame or terminal box | Make, frame size, serial number, kVA, voltage, frequency, power factor, insulation class, number of wires |
| Controller or panel | Front label, side label, or inside the door | Make, model, software version if visible, supply voltage |
| AVR | On the AVR itself, inside the alternator terminal box | Make, model, part number, adjustment layout |
| Starter and charging alternator | On the unit body | Make, voltage (12 or 24 V), part number |
| Filters | Printed on the filter canister | Brand and part number, thread size |
| Battery | Top label | Voltage, capacity (Ah), terminal layout |
Why a serial number matters
The same engine model has variants through its production life. A filter, injector or sensor that fits one build may not fit another. The serial number lets the supplier look up the exact build, which is the difference between a part that fits and a wasted trip.
How to photograph a part
- Wide shot showing where the part sits on the machine.
- Close shot of the part from the front and the side.
- Close shot of any numbers or markings, with good light and no glare.
- A coin or ruler beside the part for scale.
- The nameplate of the parent engine or alternator.
If the plate is unreadable
Clean it gently with a cloth, not a wire brush. Light the plate from the side to read stamped numbers. Take photographs from several angles. Measure key dimensions: length, diameter, hole spacing, thread size and number of pins.
Safety before you look
- Switch the set to off and prevent starting before reaching near rotating parts or belts.
- Let the engine cool; exhaust and coolant are hot.
- Do not open electrical enclosures unless qualified.
What to send us
Engine and alternator plate photos, part photos, the symptom or reason for replacement, running hours, and your site location. For urgent breakdowns, say so, and state the outage impact.
Genuine and OEM-equivalent parts differ in quality and warranty; tell us your preference. For regular replacement planning, see preventive maintenance, battery and starting systems and ATS service.
The master engineering question
Does the part we ship match your exact engine, alternator and controller, not just a similar one?

Questions buyers ask
What if the nameplate is missing?
Send photos of the engine and part; we will help identify.
Do you supply genuine parts?
Confirm brand and grade when you enquire.
Can you fit the part?
Service is available; ask when enquiring.
How quickly?
Depends on stock and part; we confirm when we quote.
Guidance only. Part matching needs the identification details.
